Loser's Guide to Life
More and More Teens Baffled by Science
That's today's text in the local newspaper. They mean highschool students who are supposedly being taught science in highschool. Not a bunch of teens who don't go to school at all. Twenty years ago, schools sort of gave up on teaching the humanities as being irrelevant or just more trouble than it was worth. After all, the thing is to train professionals. Not useless boets and bainters. In short order, universities started whining about how new students couldn't write an English sentence. That's not such a tragedy, of course, because who needs to write anything? But the problem of willful ignorance is complicated.
Whatever people imagine to be going on in universities and schools, it's not what they think.
