Loser's Guide to Life
One of the most interesting music works I have seen is Dominick Argento's "Letters from composers", a song cycle. He used actual letters from composers as his text. Here Chopin is complaining about Paris, there Mozart is telling his father why he failed to get a commission. It's a bit odd to read them: "... in - stead of ar - rang - ing for his ad - mit - tance, __ to throw him out and give him a kick in the pants...____________", says the disappointed Mozart. But the saddest is from Debussy, written during the Great War, very bleak.
The score was published in New York by Boosey & Hawkes in 1971.
