Facing Facts

Facing Facts

By PIERRE DRāNO

The Author

As you can see, this weblog is produced for the most part by animals. I don't mind having their pea-brained opinions appearing over my name. I'm far too busy taking local politicians out for drinks to write all these "blog posts" that somehow turn up on this "blog".

I guess that ought to be "'blog". Call me old-fashioned, but I'm the sort of fellow who insists on writing "'bus" to remind people that the word is a contraction for the original "minibus" (Latin: it means "for the use of midgets").

However, sometimes there emerges an issue of sufficient magnitude to call for me to wade in. Such an issue is, unless I miswean, the coming election.

Now, Christmas is a great time, especially for the destitute and lonely. Thoughts of Santy and all that. Yo-he-ho, or whatever.

But this year Canadians will just have to postpone Christmas in order to deal soberly with the elections. Everyone should stop everything and concentrate on getting as much information as possible about the various political parties and their positions on one thing or another. It is very important to do this. The country could well be at a crossroads. From Wall Street to Bishkek nervous financiers will be eyeing the results.

Of course your actual vote won't matter. A bit like cheering for your team while watching the game at home and pretending that your enthusiasm helps. But it's a harmless amusement, and good for you.

Watching TV is a good way to tear yourself away from the computer.
