Literary Factoid 

Marguerite Duras wrote 600 novels or so all about the same thing: some woman feels out of sorts, so she has an affair that's very exciting, but somehow it doesn't really improve matters, and this is the sobering lesson. Oddly enough, the only things she wrote that everybody likes were written between 1957 and 1965, when she was completely drunk most of the time. Not really a sobering lesson, is it?
