At that point people became less popular as pets. The national craze went from people to giant gouramis in less than a year, and now people were no longer buying people in anything like the numbers during the craze, and they were even abandoning the people they had.
Few would admit it, but people were being found sleeping in doorways and hunting for pizza crusts because they had been left on the street by their people. “What really angers me”, said a city worker, “is people are so lazy. If they won't look after them, they should take their people to a shelter, at least.” Wise words. However ....
