Loser's Guide to Life
A man has been held as prisoner of war in some minor conflict for a couple of years. He's been away from his wife pretty much for the duration. At first she was inconsolable, then worried, then—but let's not dwell on that. Anyway, the war is over and he comes back and there they are!
What he really wants to do is go over some things they had been talking about before the war, things which he has since revised and rehearsed while hammering away at railway ties or shoveling gravel or whatever.
He spent his imprisonment coming up with nuanced arguments. “Here I may have missed, there exceeded the mark”, he explains to her. “My position on private ownership of the media is the following”, he says, almost completely at ease in his new clothes.
