Leonard Cohen! What a wonderful man. I was very impressed by him. Voice of a generation, only one every six Prime Ministers. A regular rara avis, a nation's trusty brise-gueule. Every song by Leonard Cohen starts off about the war, then there's a bit about drunks or Jesus, then it finishes by addressing Leonard Cohen's girlfriend rather diffidently. Too bad for her. I'm not sure whether he's saying that love is a battlefield, or that war is like a date with Leonard Cohen. Does it matter? Hardly.

The beauty is, though, you can't tell if he's dumping her or trying to get her in the sack, can you? No need to expand on the value of that. As I say, a talent like this comes along only once in a great while.
